I don't get it

People say "Stand out, be unique" while others say "blend in, fit in". It is good to be yourself, but I feel like society now has gone the opposite direction which is why people on tiktok are faking mental disorders; because it's rare and quirky. For example: if you're a girl and you like dresses, and most of the other girls like dresses, it's not a bad thing to be like the others. If everyone in a room was sitting down and one person stood up, suddenly they're unique. But then everyone copies and suddenly the majority has changed; everyone is standing up. So then to stand out you have to step onto a chair and the cycle goes on.

Society puts too much pressure (well at least in the west) to be unique and be quirky (heck there's even an entire subreddit dedicated to this) and I think something needs to be done about it. Follow the cheesy message of "be yourself", but don't feel bad if yourself acts like or dresses like a large group of people.

Also acting like your oppressed to give yourself attention is utter bullshit.

hm... i when i look to the masses i see a bunch of normal people, mr normals, normal it, normal that, normaltyon. Soccer, politics, society, popular movies, popular series, teenages, new cars, normal music...

Probably the biggest dilemma and the cause of many problems both domestically and globally.

First of all forget about every single thing you know about society today because in the next generation or so, you'd be considered by that interpretation of society's standards as wrong, different, radical and evil. Even if you did or said nothing to warrant it. It's a bitch, but times change and people try to cash in on it by making everyone adhere to it.

Second of all regarding the conundrum between "Be yourself." And "Blend in." Forget everythimg you know about anti-conformist views. It's a croc and it's grossly hypocritical. South Park even pointed it out by having the Goth Kids say "To be a non-conformist, you have to dress and act exactly like us." Even before them Charlie Chaplin pointed it out too "Dictators free themselves but they enslave the people."

Anyone that comes with you claiming to be non-conformist and individual, is full of shit because their attempt at "freeing" you, is really a means of recruiting, indoctorning and even possibly taking advantage of you financially as well as sexually. Cults, Hate Groups and Dictatorships were created because the leads often give promises that seem too good not to be true.

If you really want to be yourself, you have to be commited to that to the letter and only choose to hang out with those that genuinely love and respect you even if their viewpoint is different. If you want to blend in, wear a suit and be prepared to kiss ass and sacrifice your freedom and soul for the rest of your life.

South Park even pointed it out by having the Goth Kids say "To be a non-conformist, you have to dress and act exactly like us."

- I just realised the hypocrisy of that quote because back when I first watched that episode i didn't know what a "Non-conformist" was.
